Another thing I experienced this pregnancy which I haven't before is belly painting. The gorgeous Sophia turned up at my house armed with her paints and coffees to get us going at 7.30am. Paige and Ruby were super interested to see what was going on and kept checking in on the progress. Getting a love heart themselves at the end with "thing 1 and thing 2" written inside.
Some behind the scenes photos of Kate doing her thing! My little "things" and Me! Thanks so much to Kate and Sophia for this experience. If anyone around Wanaka is interested in doing something similar get in touch with the girls on instagram @katiejaynephoto and @sophiaisshort

I didn't bother with maternity photos for my other pregnancies, but there is something about knowing that this is the last time you are going to experience something that makes you want to capture that moment in time... So here i was 22weeks pregnant with twins and i can honestly say I love every image!
We made a last minute decision to get images in the lake, it was 8pm at night, the sun was gone behind the hill and it was a little bit chilly to say the least. I had no towel and no change of underwear, but it was totally worth it for the gorgeous images that stacey captured. Special Thanks to: Stacey Downer Photography We decided to do a gender reveal on the day of our 16week scan. After organizing it I was a little worried the babies wouldn’t play the game and it might just be a nice lunch, but all went perfectly to plan! My friend Stacey came along and got given the special news before heading off to buy balloons in the appropriate colors and enclosing them in boxes.
The opening of the boxes was pretty nerve wracking and the anticipation was high as when you already have a family of girls everyone seems to think all you want is a little boy, for us that wasn’t the case at all. Hamish and I weren’t worried either way what the genders were, but Paige desperately wanted a brother and Ruby wanted another sister. Paige ripped open her box to release the pink balloons, we then waited for Ruby to rip hers open (this took a little longer) everyone was silent as she freed the balloons and a huge Whoop of excitement came from everyone’s mouths as we saw that they were blue. Paige and Ruby quickly swapped boxes so that got what they had wanted. We had such a lovely lunch with some of our friends and our parents and would recommend a gender reveal to everyone – such a fun way to find out what your new baby is going to be! Hamish and I had been on the fence about whether to add to our family or not! Last year we gave ourselves till June 2017 to make a decision. June rolled around and neither of us could say we were completely done having children so decided to get practicing and see what happened. One more baby to fill that empty seat in our car, one more baby to fill that spare room and that unused cot I had stored under the bed.
Little did we know, we would be lucky enough to fall pregnant in that first month of trying. From around the start of July I just knew I had to be pregnant, I know my body pretty well so did a home pregnancy test with the results coming back negative – I was confused, I had all the symptoms after all and I just felt different! So I left it for a few days before doing another, and another, and another, and another… all coming back negative. I have a thyroid condition so I started to think maybe my levels were just really out of whack and that was what was making me feel so funny. I went to the Dr with all my symptoms and she decided to do some bloods and also a urine pregnancy test just to rule it out, that too came back negative so she sent me out to wait on a nurse for blood tests. While waiting in the waiting room, she came back out and called me in again, “This doesn’t happen very often but your test is now positive – congratulations”. Turned out I knew by body as well as I thought I did and was so excited to be adding another little person to our family! I booked in with a midwife who referred me for an early dating scan. Three days before my big 30th Birthday Party that I had previously planned, I turned up at Radiology to see my little blob on the screen. My Husband was busy with work and we decided that since it was just a dating scan, I would go alone! My radiologist had a look and got a funny expression on her face, my heart sank – something was wrong, anxiety is something I have suffered with for years and I automatically think the worst in most situations. She then started smiling and held up two fingers saying, “there’s two”! I just stared at her, not really taking in what she had just told me. I lay there quietly for the rest of the scan while she checked everything out, and she remarked on how well I was taking the news. Realistically I wasn’t taking the news at all, she handed me a wee picture of the little blobs and sent me on my way. On the way to my car I rang Hamish and told him there were two; he thought I was joking, asking if I was sure! I then rang my friend Stacey (wee_welsh) telling her she had jinxed me as her and her hubby had been joking around saying I would end up with twin girls! To be honest I’m still not sure its sank in yet, that come March we are going to be completing our family with not 1 but 2 babies, purchasing another cot for that spare room which will become a nursery for the twins and car shopping all over again for a new car to fit our 4 children in car seats and a double buggy – something we did only 8 months ago! All of that aside, we are all so excited to meet these wee Junghenns and cant wait to share our journey with everyone! |
